Elmira Maple Syrup Festival

At the beginning of April every year the town of Elmira shuts down, the roads are blocked off to downtown and vendors set up their booths in the middle of the street. The attendance varies, but 50,000 people are expected at the Festival!

We always aim to leave the house around 8am. I like to be in and out before the mass of humanity seriously arrives. Sometime around 10am!

One of the highlights for me is getting fresh taffy. Love to watch this. The smell in the air is incredible.

To park, the cars are on the outskirts of town, parked in industrial areas. Everything is shut down, and tractors haul hayride loads of people into and out of town.

The syrup will last at least a few months, but the maple sugar will barely last the weekend!
